Mad Trapper Course Descriptions

ALL 2008/9 races will be at the Ark. All races take place on a Saturday and start at 10am. Therefore participants are encouraged to arrive between 9am and 9:30 to register, complete the waivers, and gear up.

December 13, 2008 - "Flatter" course

The whole Synergy/Mad Trapper philosophy is about the wilderness baby and so a complete WILDERNESS snowshoe series is what it's going to be. We have the trails, we have the trees, we have the hills, we have the bonfire pit, we have the large indoor heated gathering and feeding area, and thus, we have the complete snowshoe facility. Since we have it, we're going to use it. But since this is the first event of the season we are going to set a reasonably flat course. There will be a bit of a hill climb right out of the blocks but then it's 'mostly' downhill or flat from there. This race will have a 5k loop that the 10k snowshoers will challenge twice. This trail will take you through "the Meadow", "the Magical Kingdom" and border along a deer sanctuary. If you're not huffing and puffing too loudly, there's a good chance you might even see some wildlife!

January 24, 2009 - The up, up, up, and finally down course

For those of you lucky enough to compete in last year's Mad Trapper Series, you will know what to expect from this race at the Ark. The course will be a 5km loop through some very hilly, rugged, Gatineau Hills terrain. Expect some steep, lung-bursting climbs, screaming downhills, and some good ole twisty, turny, singletrack. Lots of fun. For those of you with the wind and the legs to push it for the full 10k, you'll be challenging this course TWICE!

February 21 and March 7, 2009 - The Canadian National Snowshoe Championships and the Series Finale (The never-ending trail)

Again this race will take place at the Synergy Ark, but this time with a twist. This course will be a total combination of the first two routes. So you'll want to be careful not to go out too fast on the "flat" course, because you're going to need those legs for the last 5k of climbs and descents. Those competing in the Solefit 5k Challenge will take on the Flatter loop on February 21 and the Hilly Loop on March 7.
